A dream as a teenager, but which came true six years ago.
When I was fifteen, on a day of great sadness, I went to Lafontaine Park to gather my thoughts. I was astonished to find a mini zoo. I sat down under a tree and saw a couple of dog houses, but couldn’t see any dogs.
Lost in my thoughts, I heard a loud howl and looked over. There was a dog watching me with his chestnut coloured eyes. A magnificent dog, like none I’ve seen before, with that human spark in his eyes. I had just fallen in love with this Alaskan Malamute. Right that moment I knew that one day I would own a land and have a pack of these superb animals to share my life.
The Aïkirocka kennel was born six years ago! It’s a family-based breeding located in the Eastern Townships, more precisely in Dunham, on the wine road. We have six dogs that live with us: a couple of Bullmastiffs and four Alaskan Malamutes.
Rocky, ou Rouky de la lignée des Randmor's et Beauté Baloune, the oldest of our companions (5 years and 3 months), a male Bullmastiff, is my husband’s acquirement.
Standing 26 inches tall (66 cm) and weighting 124 pounds (56 kg), he has fawn fur with a black mask and chestnut coloured eyes. He’s a magnificent dog, very muscular, and he knows how to show it. He’s a big Teddy bear who craves affection and loves people and children. He’s the happiest guy around when comes the time to eat. Always playful, he likes to fetch and run until he’s out of breath, but he always keep an eye on his female, Aïcha, whom he takes good care of.
Aïcha, whose real name is Ushaia des Vergers de Guyenne, is a female Bullmastiff. I had her delivered from Europe, where she was born. She’s 4 years and 10 months old, has a black mask and weight 110 pounds (50 kg), the maximum allowed for a female dog. She’s 26 inches tall to the withers (66 cm). She has an exceptional look, cuts a fine figure, has a superb muscle structure and has remarkable intelligence and instinct. She’s a little greedy around dinner time, so we have to keep a close eye on her. She’s a good mother. In February 2005, she gave birth to ten puppies, six of them within standards.
Despite the arrival of my dear Bullmastiffs, my husband found me inconsolable following the loss of my Great Danish, which happened a few months earlier. We had him for thirteen beautiful years. He had won my heart and made my canine education. Before him, I never had such a close relationship and great complicity with a canine. My husband then decided to make my wildest dream come true: the opening of a kennel. I told him about my teenager’s dream to share my life with Alaskan Malamutes. So we began our search in the Breeders’ Listing to find us a puppy and, naturally, a conscientious breeder. I waited an entire year! Finally, our first Malamute arrived. He was a male that I name Kimo.
Kimo, whose real name is Myatok’s Printz Kimo T-Rex, is 4 years and five months old, weights 120 pounds (54 kg) and is 27 ½ inches (69 cm) tall to the withers. He has a complete mask. This Malamute is a very good subject representative of the race: robust, strong, tall, affectionate like a cat and endowed with a sensational health. Kimo is an adorable dog. He’s black and white, and he is now castrated. He is a real wonderful companion and I can’t imagine my kennel without my good Kimo. He is my barometer when the females are in heat and, of course, without any danger for impregnation.
The dream continued. So, we had to choose a female and another reproductive male. The breeder put me in contact with another breeder, in Ontario. I took in another female:
Douchka , whose real name is Moonsnoe’s Douchka of Aïkirocka. Grey wolf and white, she also has a mask. Like her name suggests, she is very gentle and has exemplary calmness. She’s an alpha female and leaves the job to form into a pack to others. Her gait is agile, feminine and delicate. She has a princely look and a well-balanced character. She weights 116 pounds (53 kg) and is 26 inches tall (71 cm). In May 2007, she honoured us by giving birth for the first time to three females and a male. The kennel where Kimo was born only had females. In order to close the contract with the breeder, I decided to take in another female.
Chanouk , whose real name is Myatok's Mariko Chanouk, was born on New Year’s Day 2005. Grey wolf and white, she has an open face, she’s courageous, playful, affectionate, a very good keeper, as quick as lightning. We call her our gazelle. In a run, she leaves the others far behind. She has a magnificent movement. Excellent mother, she gave birth to 5 puppies which she fed until they were eight weeks old. She taught them everything so they could start their lives on the right foot. To complete my kennel, I still needed a breeding male. I had already discussed with the breeder in Ontario.
Moonsnoe’S Sir Youri was born on November 20th, 2005. We exchanged pictures. Youri was magnificent, even more than in my wildest dreams. His fur is seal coloured and white (flecked), also has a mask, chestnut coloured almond shaped eyes sparkling with kindness and great intelligence. Playful, roguish and a little rascal, he loves to run with her beautiful Chanouk. He is docile and calm with his masters. Strong, courageous and thoroughbred, he weights 119 pounds (54 kg) and is 27 inches (69 cm) tall. Fawned upon by all our visitors, he knows how to make himself conspicuous. Excellent father, he’s extremely patient and very gentle with the five puppies he had with Chanouk, a girl and four slightly turbulent boys.
